Ashan Barr

Hi, my name is Ashan and I am currently a third year engineering student at the University of Canterbury. I attended Hamilton Boys High School as a boarder from 2018 to 2022. Throughout my time at school, I studied the NCEA, Cambridge IGCSE and AS levels. During this time, I was awarded academic honours in Years 12 and 13, for achieving NCEA Level 1 and 2 endorsed with excellence. Unfortunately, due to a sporting injury I missed a large part of Year 13 which led to me only achieving merit endorsed for level 3.

As a student at UC, I major in Forest Engineering and have thus far received two scholarships over my studies. Outside of academia, I enjoy volunteering in different ways, as well as getting outdoors, playing sports and enjoying the natural world, ensuring that I can thrive in school by living a balanced life.

I have had several years of experience as a tutor as well as refugee and behavioural mentoring at Hamilton Boys High School. This range of experience has helped me adapt tutoring styles to each situation and do my best to foster real growth. I am confident to tutor the subjects of Maths, Calculus and Algebra, Physics and Economics to Level 3, and Chemistry to Level 2.
