Shashika Chamod
Hi there! I'm Shashika Chamod, a PhD student at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland, where I research cardiac physiology and model physiological systems using mathematics.
I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and Master’s in Data Science in Sri Lanka. Throughout my studies, I was actively involved in extracurriculars—I competed as a middle-distance runner in the 800m and 3000m events, served as a prefect, and held leadership roles in the science society, literature club, and various other student groups.
After university, I became involved in tech innovation, and one of my medical software projects was recognised with the Jury’s Special Award at the Commonwealth Innovation Forum 2023.
My teaching journey has included tutoring students across a range of levels, from high school to tertiary education, with a focus on STEM subjects. In New Zealand, I’ve tutored Cambridge International IGCSE, AS and A Level Mathematics, as well as NCEA Level 1, 2, and 3 Mathematics, including algebra, calculus, geometry, probability, and statistical report evaluation.
I currently offer tutoring for NCEA Mathematics (Levels 1–3), Probability and Statistical Reporting, as well as Cambridge Mathematics (IGCSE, AS and A Level). I believe that the key to deep understanding is simplifying complex concepts and relating them to real-life experiences. Every student is unique, and I strive to support them not just in achieving academic success, but also in growing into the people they want to become.
