Ashleigh Stanners

Hi, I’m Ashleigh, a passionate researcher in my sixth year of tertiary study. I’m completing a Master’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Waikato, specializing in DNA metabarcoding and dietary ecology, while also contributing to an environmental DNA study in Antarctica. I previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Genetics with a minor in Zoology from the University of Otago and a Postgraduate Diploma in Genomic Health and Medicine.

Throughout my studies, I have received multiple scholarships, including the Leaders of Tomorrow, Dux, and Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships. My secondary education was at Stratford High School in Taranaki (2015–2019), where I was Head Girl, Dux, and the top academic student from Year 9–13. I excelled in mathematics, English, and science, achieving excellence endorsements in NCEA Level 3 Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, and Calculus.

Beyond academia, I enjoy painting, reading, and exploring the outdoors through hiking and camping. I also love baking, playing video games, and spending time with friends. My passion for science and discovery drives my research, and I am eager to continue making contributions in my field.
